Woodworking at the Farm Day Services

Woodworking at Whinflower Hall

Our woodworking shed is a space full of possibility—where the people we support can shape, build, and learn through working with real tools and real wood.

Set among the wider farming and craft spaces at Whinflower Hall, this workshop has grown into a vibrant hub of creativity. We use donated timber—everything from builder’s merchant offcuts to reclaimed wood found on the farm—and everyone is invited to help transform it into something useful or beautiful.

A Space for Creativity and Learning

The workshop isn’t about ticking a list—it’s about exploration, skill-building, and pride in the finished piece. Whether someone is chopping kindling to take home, sanding a bird box, or putting together a bench, there’s always a way to be included. Our tools—bench saws, sanders, drills, impact drivers—are used under close, one-to-one support so everyone can work safely and confidently at their own pace.

Projects That Matter

Every project in the workshop tells a story. From small items like welly boot jacks and planters to larger pieces like raised beds or garden benches, each creation has a purpose and a meaning. Seeing wood go from rough timber to something functional or decorative brings a real sense of accomplishment.

Some items we make are used around Whinflower Hall; others are sold at local events and, soon, via our online shop—helping raise funds that go right back into supporting the people who make them.

Supporting Growth Through Making

Woodworking teaches more than practical skills. It develops concentration, patience, creativity, and confidence—alongside hand–eye coordination and problem-solving. Importantly, it helps people feel capable and proud of what they can do.

For many, the workshop also offers a social and sensory experience—choosing wood by feel and smell, sharing ideas on design, and enjoying the buzz of making something together.

Join Us Anytime

The woodworking workshop is open to everyone participating in our Day Services. Whether you’re picking up a tool for the first time or already know your way around a saw, we’re here to support, encourage, and help you build something to be proud of.
