I started working for Acorn Community Care in January 2021 as Head of People & Resources.

Previous to working at Acorn, I have been a HR manager for over 15 years and have worked at a variety of companies including two local charities as well as 5 years spent at Castle Howard as their HR Manager.

Back in December 2020 I had intended to take early retirement but I received a call from the team at Acorn enquiring if I would be willing to visit the farm with a view to providing some HR cover.

I went along for an interview , met the team and realised that the work they do, the service they provide is really quite unique and just generally loved the ethos of the charity. I was easily persuaded to shelve that retirement plan and I’ve been here ever since!

I spend three days a week providing not only HR cover but my role has expanded into managing the day to day admin function and working with the management team on a program of constant improvements for not just our staff but the people who use our service. I can honestly say no two days are the same, it’s a joy to see the fun on the farm that happens every day and meet some very valuable and dedicated staff.
